In today’s video, we are opening and reviewing a 2022 Panini Phoenix Hobby box. The Optichrome base totals 200 cards, broken down between 100 veterans and 100 rookies. These boxes released on Panini for $299.95, and can still be found there as of this review. Secondary market prices fall in the $350 range. Each box contains 2 autographs, 1 memorabilia card, 9 #’d parallels, 2 silvers, 9 inserts, and 12 rookies. There is a long list of parallels such as Silver, Color Burst(one per box), the all new Sprinkles, Red(#’d/250), Pink(#’d/199), Lava(#’d/175), Teal(#’d/150), Purple(#’d/125), Orange(#’d/99), Yellow(#’d/75), Fire and Ice(#’d/50), Blue(#’d/35), Green(#’d/25), Black(#’d/10), Gold 1-of-1’s, and 1-of-1 Printing Plates. Autographs include RPS Rookie Auto Jersey cards that include NFL Laundry Tags, Brand Logo Laundry Tag, and NFL Shield Laundry Tags, as well as Super Prime 1-of-1’s. Additional autos include Star Sign, Paragon Patch autos. Inserts can be found in in the all new Contours, Metropolis, Hot Routes, and Rookie Rising Short prints/case hits include Archetype, En Fuego, and Phoenician.

Final Rating: 3.5/5 πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ

πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ for Set Quality/Design: The design might not be for everyone. Phoenix definitely has a theme, and it does it well. It’s bright, loud, and in your face. Phoenix is all that, but it still manages to not be overly busy. Quality control is above average, at least from my box. While centering is difficult to pin down at first, there were not any wild issues.

πŸƒπŸƒ for Value: Don’t let my box skew your opinion. It’s was a giant, flaming turd of a box. That might be a slight exaggeration, but from other openings I’ve seen, you can expect more. For what I paid, at $250, it’s an solid value. However, if your paying $350 on the secondary, not so much. These cards don’t command the high dollars like Prizm or Optic. The sheer amount of parallel’s also clips it’s wings. πŸ˜‰ Sure, the 2 auto’s add value in a time when Panini seems to be cutting back on them. However, the checklist is big and full of names that will bring home little value.

πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ for Collectability: This set has always been a collectors set. In years past, it was an online only release. But Panini had to Panini this year. I have to ding Phoenix here for the amount of parallel’s in the set. There’s simply too many. We know Panini does this because they want to increase print runs, while still keeping the guaranteed #’d cards per box. It dilutes the whole set, and makes each card less desirable in the end.
